CVS Health Taps Former PepsiCo and UPS Exec as New CFO
CVS Health has named Tom Kingsbury as its new Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, bringing seasoned operational and financial leadership to one of the largest healthcare and retail players in the U.S. Kingsbury, who officially steps into the role on July 1, joins CVS from UPS and previously held senior positions at FMCG giant PepsiCo.
His appointment comes at a pivotal time for CVS Health as it continues to balance its expansive healthcare ambitions with its established retail operations. With FMCG and logistics experience under his belt, Kingsbury is expected to play a key role in shaping the financial strategy across CVS’s multifaceted business, including its retail pharmacy, healthcare services, and digital health initiatives.
“Tom’s proven track record of driving operational efficiency and financial discipline at globally recognized companies makes him the ideal choice to steward CVS Health’s financial future,” said CVS Health President and CEO Karen Lynch.
Most recently, Kingsbury served as Senior Vice President of Finance at UPS, where he oversaw supply chain finance and transformation. Before that, he spent nearly two decades at PepsiCo, rising through various finance positions across its food and beverage divisions in North America and Latin America.
His experience at PepsiCo is particularly relevant for CVS’s consumer-facing products and private label strategies. FMCG executives will note the increasing crossover between retail healthcare and traditional consumer packaged goods sectors as CVS continues to expand private label offerings and leverage store brands.
Kingsbury succeeds Shawn Guertin, who stepped down earlier this year for health reasons. Interim CFO Laurie Havanec, CVS’s Chief People Officer, will continue in her current HR role after the transition.
As consumer health and retail categories continue to converge, CFOs are playing a larger role not only in financial strategy but also in guiding innovation, portfolio optimization, and omnichannel expansion. Industry analysts will be watching how Kingsbury leverages his CPG and logistics background to drive growth and operational performance across CVS’s diverse business units.
