Mondelez Commits CHF 65M to Boost Toblerone Production in Switzerland

Mondelez International is investing CHF 65 million (approx. $74 million) to scale up production capacity at its Toblerone facility in Bern, Switzerland. The strategic investment aims to strengthen supply capabilities for the iconic Swiss chocolate brand amid growing global demand.

The Bern plant, one of Toblerone’s original production sites, will see its chocolate molding, packaging technologies, and warehousing systems modernized as part of the upgrade. The investment also includes enhanced automation and energy-efficient infrastructure, supporting Mondelez’s broader sustainability targets.

The move indicates Mondelez’s intent to reinforce its presence in premium chocolate, a category that remains resilient and continues to grow—especially in international markets. Toblerone remains a key heritage brand in Mondelez’s portfolio of chocolate assets, which includes other powerhouse names like Cadbury and Milka.

“Strengthening our manufacturing operations in Bern allows us to meet rising global consumer demand for Toblerone while investing in advanced, sustainable manufacturing,” a Mondelez spokesperson stated.

While part of Toblerone production has already been shifted to Slovakia to keep up with volume growth, Mondelez affirms its continued commitment to Switzerland as the heart of Toblerone’s identity. The investment ensures the brand retains its Swiss origin, a key point of differentiation in premium chocolate positioning.

This latest capital injection is part of Mondelez’s wider multi-year plan to optimize its manufacturing footprint and boost efficiencies across its global network. The company has committed significant resources to modernize assets in both snacks and confectionery, reflecting a proactive approach to supply chain resilience and consumer-focused innovation.

The enhanced capacity at the Bern facility is expected to come online progressively, ensuring the seamless delivery of Toblerone across more than 120 markets worldwide.
