Nestlé Strengthens Market Presence in Romania as Consumer Trust Remains Strong

Nestlé continues to enjoy robust popularity among Romanian consumers, with diverse product categories integrated into daily routines from breakfast to dinner. With over 70 global and local brands, the company’s sustained efforts in health, sustainability, and innovation are resonating well with the local market.

Recent figures from a NielsenIQ study confirm that Nestlé products remain among the most appreciated in Romania. Consumers cite trust in product quality, long-standing brand familiarity, and a wide portfolio spanning categories such as dairy, coffee, confectionery, culinary aids, and infant nutrition as key decision drivers. Notably, Nescafé, Maggi, Lion, and Nesquik continue to rank high in purchase preferences.

Adaptation to Evolving Consumer Needs

Romanian households are showing a growing appetite for products that combine taste with nutritional value and convenience. Nestlé’s local strategy is aligned with these demands, emphasizing product reformulation to reduce added sugars and salt while boosting fibre and whole grain content across its portfolio. In Romania alone, over 85% of Nestlé’s product volume sold in 2023 met recommended sodium targets, and 99% were in line with WHO guidelines on sugar consumption for children and adults.

The company also reports increasing demand in the plant-based segment. Its Garden Gourmet range and plant-based versions of brands like Nesquik and Nescafé are steadily gaining traction. This aligns with broader health and sustainability trends influencing consumer behavior across Eastern Europe.

Commitment to Sustainability and Local Development

Beyond nutrition, Nestlé’s environmental initiatives remain a significant priority. The company continues to invest in sustainable packaging, responsible sourcing, and CO2 reduction. Efforts such as digital education campaigns and community programs enhance its standing as a socially responsible corporate player in Romania.

With a portfolio tailored to the modern Romanian lifestyle and a solid reputation for quality and trust, Nestlé is well-positioned to maintain its leadership in the Romanian FMCG landscape. Continued investments in health-conscious innovation and sustainability are core to its strategy moving forward.
