PepsiCo Ukraine Launches Transition to Blue Fuel for Freight Transport

PepsiCo Ukraine has initiated a new sustainability project aimed at reducing its carbon footprint by transitioning its truck fleet to vehicles powered by blue fuel—a lower-emission alternative to conventional diesel. The move aligns with the company’s wider global strategy to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2040.

The project, launched in collaboration with logistics partner ZAMMLER, will see three IVECO trucks equipped with internal combustion engines running on compressed natural gas (CNG) enter PepsiCo Ukraine’s distribution operations. This is the first phase in the company’s broader plan to adopt more environmentally friendly transportation solutions across its logistics network.

Although CNG is not entirely emissions-free, it significantly reduces carbon dioxide output compared to diesel fuel. PepsiCo Ukraine anticipates crude emissions will decline by up to 30% with the new fleet compared to trucks currently running on fossil diesel.

“We understand the urgent need to reduce emissions in every part of our value chain. Transportation is a major source of carbon emissions, and this initiative demonstrates our commitment to developing sustainable logistics in Ukraine,” said Myroslav Bagan, Logistics Director at PepsiCo Ukraine.

Each CNG truck in the pilot program has a driving range of over 1,600 kilometers on a full tank, making them suitable for long-haul deliveries throughout the country. According to ZAMMLER, these trucks will transport primarily beverages and snack products between PepsiCo’s manufacturing facilities, warehouses, and retail partners.

PepsiCo Ukraine’s decision mirrors a growing FMCG industry trend toward exploring alternative fuel sources to decarbonize supply chains while maintaining operational efficiency. As regulatory pressure and consumer expectations around sustainability increase, major brands are investing in greener logistics to meet environmental targets and improve ESG performance.

The initiative strengthens PepsiCo’s position as a leader in responsible business practices in the Ukrainian FMCG market, and signals growing momentum toward carbon reduction solutions in transport and distribution strategies.
